Volkswagen Tarok Pickup Concept

Volkswagen of America is showing off the VW Tarok concept pickup truck vehicle at this year’s New York International Auto Show.    This compact unibody truck will be produced for the South American market soon, but there are not currently plans to introduce it to the North American market.  VW hopes to gauge the level of interest in the Tarok concept after it is shown at the auto show.

The Tarok concept is built on VW‘s innovative MQB platform.  It has an impressive ability to carry loads longer than the pickup bed since the design allows the bed to extend into the cab.  This is done by utilizing the newly-developed mechanism that allows the operator to fold down the bottom of the passenger cabin’s rear panel for extended space. This means amazing versatility in the load area and ability to get items moved efficiently.  The payload is a respectable 2,271 pounds.

It will be interesting to keep watch on whether this concept vehicle eventually comes to the U.S. market.  Thelen Volkswagen will keep you updated here if information is released.
