While winter can be damaging to your vehicle, people often forget that summer is equally hazardous to their vehicle’s health. With the increased heat, drivers need to be aware of the stress their vehicle can take as a result. Thelen VW of Bay City wants to make sure you perform frequent vehicle inspections and needed maintenance to ensure your vehicle is ready to take on the hot summer days in the Great Lakes Bay Region.

You will want to evaluate a variety of areas to monitor your vehicle’s health.  Belts can take some serious abuse during summer, since the excess heat can cause the rubber to crack and potentially breakSummer can also reveal if your vehicle has vaporized fuel leakage issues, as the increased heat will cause the pressure in the gas tank to increase as well. This problem may even cause your Check Engine Light to come on. A vehicle’s battery also endures increased stress due to more effort put into cooling the cabin and various other components. As such, ensure that the battery has an unobstructed flow of air to enable better cooling. Spring and summer both bring plenty of rain in Michigan, which means a lot of windshield wiper use. Routinely check them for any cracking or excess wear, otherwise there is a larger risk of windshield scratching. Finally, your vehicle’s engine is more prone to overheating during the summer. Keep up on checking fluid levels and make sure to fill them if they are low.

If you have any questions or concerns about your vehicle’s health during the summertime, make sure to give the Thelen Volkswagen Service Center a call. We are always happy to assist you in making sure your vehicle is running at peak performance, no matter the temperature outside!
