When the winter weather hits, you’re going to want to be prepared! There are some easy tips you can follow that will get you ready for the snow and ice that is sure to come this winter in Michigan. First and foremost, your tires need to be checked before driving on slippery conditions. Your tire pressure should be at the correct level and your tires should have enough tread to adequately grip. You can try the penny test where you take a penny and put it into your tread. If you can see the top of Abraham Lincoln’s head, it’s time to get your tires replaced.
Your antifreeze and heater are also important parts of your Volkswagen vehicle when winter comes around. Make sure there are no leaks in the hoses for antifreeze and that all the components to your heater are in working order. Plus, your battery should be checked and changed out if there are issues. You don’t want to find yourself stranded with a dead battery!
You should also build a winter emergency kit for those “just in case” situations that leave you on the side of the road. Some items that should be in your kit include jumper cables, road flares or reflective triangles, a blanket, a flashlight, water, and snacks such as granola bars. You should make sure you always have a charger cable for your phone too!
