Get Ready for Winter Weather Driving - Thelen VW in Bay City, MI

Make Sure You Are Ready for Winter Driving in Mid-Michigan

Winter driving conditions can be treacherous for drivers of any skill level. The slippery roads covered with snow and cold temperatures will force you to change how you handle everyday driving while the conditions persist. However, there are simple tips that you can utilize to greatly reduce the stress of the experience. Thelen VW in Bay City, MI, wants to share with you our favorite tidbits that we use to ensure that we arrive at our destinations safely every time we set out in winter. We want you to be confident that during this potentially dangerous season for driving, you have every resource at the ready.

Tips for Safe & Less Stressful Winter Driving This Year

Drive Slower – When roads get slippery with snow and ice, you need to give yourself more time to react to potential situations. Additionally, driving faster can increase the likelihood of being unable to stop when required or even losing grip entirely and spinning out. As such, you want to give yourself every opportunity to safely get to your destination. Leave a few minutes earlier than you would normally do so you don’t feel like you have to drive quickly. Also, avoid sharp and sudden movements when merging or turning. Make gradual movements to keep your vehicle gripping the road more reliably.

Stick to Familiar Routes – If you are going to a destination that you routinely go to such as work, make sure you keep yourself on a route that you know. This way, you can eliminate one variable that could add to the stress of the drive. If you have to contact emergency personnel or a family member while you are out and about, you can also provide them with confident information about where you currently are to help you out if you need assistance.
