When Should I Schedule a Service Appointment?
Have you ever been driving along and a light pops up on your vehicle‘s dashboard? There are many different symbols and multiple colors that mean various alerts or warnings, depending on the shape and color. Below, we will go over some symbols that can appear on your dashboard and mean it’s time for a service appointment.
Dashboard Symbols Not to Ignore
Coolant Level Warning – A little red thermometer surrounded by squiggles generally indicates that your vehicle is overheating. The best thing to do is pull over to the side of the road and pop the hood if it’s not too hot. Contact the Thelen Volkswagen Service Center to let them help you assess whether the vehicle should be okay to drive to the facility or should be towed. Either way, you should schedule a visit to our service center immediately.
Airbag Warning Light – With many vehicles, a picture of a buckled-up person with a circle in front of their face will illuminate for about six seconds after the vehicle is started. This is normal and should not be a concern. However, if this light does not appear when the engine is started, does not go off after six seconds, or comes on while driving, there could be an issue with your airbag system. It is essential to have this checked out as soon as possible.
Engine Oil Pressure Light – A can with a drop of liquid dripping out means there’s a problem with your engine oil pressure. This light will come on briefly when the vehicle is started. If it stays on or illuminates while driving, this indicates an issue. Check the vehicle’s oil level and add the recommended engine oil as needed. Without oil, your engine can’t properly lubricate itself while it’s driving, which can lead to mechanical issues. If the light remains on after adding oil, do not continue to drive the vehicle until it can be serviced. This is a very important problem that should be fixed ASAP.
Charging System Warning Light – If a light that looks like a vehicle battery illuminates for longer than a few seconds after start-up or while you are driving, this indicates a potential issue with your vehicle’s generator or battery. It is important to have it checked as soon as possible.
